Welcome to my Journal
I’ve always had strong opinions, a deep love for art and self expression, and an even deeper curiosity about how things work. Growing up in a home where art was encouraged, my parents always had music filling the air, and we were constantly talking about the books we read, the movies we watched, and the theater we experienced. As I got older, I began finding ways to express myself through the arts as well.
Important to note: I have Aphantasia, which means I can’t visualize things in my mind. It’s a bit of a hurdle when it comes to traditional forms of creativity, I never felt like I could do anything new, I always needed a reference or a starting point. I’ve also lived a sheltered life in many ways, so sometimes it feels like I don’t have much to add that hasn’t already been said. But I found that using other’s art helped propel my own creativity and helped me learn how to express myself.
You might call it borrowing. Or maybe it’s remixing. I like to think of it as reworking ideas—taking something familiar and presenting it in a way that feels fresh. Maybe it's a bit of plagiarism, but I always credit those who inspire me. ;) I truly believe in the power of shared creativity.
One thing I’ve always stood by is my love for pop culture. It’s often dismissed as shallow or mindless, but I’ve found that the smartest people I know are just as obsessed with The Real Housewives as they are with deep, intellectual discourse. In fact, they can often be the same conversation. Pop culture is more than entertainment; it's accessible, relatable, and it speaks to us in ways we often don’t realize. Movies, books, and stories in general completely changed the trajectory of my life. They opened my eyes to new possibilities, showing me that just because I haven’t seen something in my own life doesn’t mean it isn’t true or possible.
Art, in its many forms, has shaped how I see the world. Growing up in Utah, USA, within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I was raised in a structured environment with clear societal expectations. I was taught the importance of tradition and faith, with an emphasis on conformity. But when I started to dive into the world of media—films like The Hunger Games and The Truman Show—I saw how storytelling could challenge norms, push boundaries, and change perspectives. It was like a whole new world opened up to me, where ideas could be questioned and reshaped.
Through this journal, I aim to share my creative journey with you, whether it’s through the lens of current pop culture or my own personal growth. Even if I’m not saying anything entirely new, my hope is that by connecting the dots, I can share these ideas in a way that resonates with you. Thanks for being part of my journey—I’m excited to share my passion, my stories, and my thoughts with you.
